Biden Press Sec. Karine Jean-Pierre to Leave Democratic Party

Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is leaving the Democratic party and registering as an Independent, according to her new book.

In the book, entitled, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside Party Lines,” Jean-Pierre explains why she feels that Americans should step outside of party loyalty and becoming Independent. It also took aim at some of the Democratic party’s decisions, including those that led to President Biden opting to not run for re-election.

For Jean-Pierre, the events of the election cycle led to the epiphany that Americans should be willing to be more open-minded about their political choices.

“I determined that the danger we face as a country requires freeing ourselves of boxes,” she said in a statement to her book publisher.

Biden named Jean-Pierre press secretary after Jen Psaki resigned. She is the first Black woman and first openly gay person to fulfill the role. Prior to her role as press secretary, she was chief of staff for Kamala Harris and also worked on the Obama campaigns.

During her stint, she regularly defended Biden and the administration, once calling it “historic.”

“He’s done more in one term than most presidents have been able to do in two terms,” she said.

On Instagram, she shared her message again that Americans should be less partisan.

“In an era of misinformation, disinformation, the regressiveness [sic] of social policy, what we’re seeing currently right now, what I have decided to do….is follow my own compass.”

Her book is slated for release in October.
