Ukraine Cabinet Building Hit in Largest Russian Strike Yet

President Zelenskky reported that on early Sunday morning, Russia waged its largest drone and missile attack against a cabinet building in Ukraine.

In a post to Telegram, Russia launched 810 drones and 13 missiles into Kyiv. A reported 747 drones and four missiles were shot down and nine missiles impacted across 33 locations, according to Ukraine’s air force. The attack surpasses Russia’s previous record of 741 munitions on July 9.

At least two people were killed in Sunday’s attack in Kyiv, and there were other impacts in the Sumy, Chernihiv, Kremenchuk, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia regions. During those attacks at least eight civilians were killed an 59 injured by Russia’s attacks across Ukraine.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that the attack damaged the “roof and upper floors” of the cabinet building in the Pecherskyi district in the center of the city.

“Rescuers are extinguishing the fire,” Svyrydenko wrote. “I think them for their work. We will restore the buildings. But lost lives cannot be returned. The enemy terrorizes and kills our people across the country every day.”

The attack garnered calls from President Zelenskyy and the prime minister to the international community and more military assistance to the country.

The president of Ukraine also addressed talks in Washington about sanctions on Russia and the need to act upon what had been agreed upon in previous meetings.

“It has been repeatedly stated in Washington that there will be sanctions for refusal to talk. We must implement everything agreed upon in Paris,” he said. “Together with France, we are preparing new measures to strengthen our defense.”

Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Telegram that its strike, using high-precision weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles, targeted facilities involved in the production, assembly, repair, storage and launch of drones, as well as military air bases.

The Defense Ministry said they shot down 69 Ukrainian drones overnight.
