On Monday, staff members at Delta State University found the body of Demartravion “Trey” Reed hanging from a tree inn the middle of campus.
Delta State University Police held a press conference on Monday afternoon and said that they did not suspect foul play and there was no campus threat.
Bolivar County Deputy Coroner Murray Roark said that he and Deputy Coroner Dwayne Proctor, in examining Reed’s body. He disputed the social media rumor that Reed had broken legs and arms.
“I saw no broken limbs,” he said. “I don’t think I should probably discuss this any further than that, my opinion is that it was self-done, and I have reasons for that.”
Roark declines to add more detail.
Delta State University Chief of Police Michael Peeler said an investigation into the death is ongoing and declined to offer further comment until the full autopsy is released.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is aiding in the case.
The campus closed on Monday after the discover of Reed’s body. The school’s centennial celebration events were also cancelled.
DSU President Dr. Dan Ennis said that he had spoken to the Reed family and expressed his condolences, and that conversations are being held about prayer services.
However, Peeler emphasized that DSU is safe.
“Delta State University is a beautiful place to be…It’s unfortunate, this loss that comes heavy to our campus.”
