Trump Folds: Agrees to Two-Week Ceasefire in Iran

After posting threatening messages that suggested that he would unleash fury upon Iran, Trump has agreed to a two-week ceasefire in the region.

Trump had set a deadline for Tuesday at 8 p.m. at which time he promised that Iranians would “be living in Hell” and that their “civilization” would destroyed if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened. However, mere hours before Trump would have needed to make good on that promise, he announced a two-week ceasefire agreement that includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran nor the United States have said when the ceasefire will begin and as recently as Wednesday, attacks happened in Israel, Iran and across the Gulf region. However, NPR reported that the agreement was to take effect immediately.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said that the agreement had been accepted and that negotiations between the United States and Pakistan would begin Friday.

Although Israel approved of the ceasefire, its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. said that the agreement does not cover attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon.

On Truth Social, Trump announced the deal and attempted to express his desire for peace after a weekend of social posts suggesting that he seeks the opposite.

“This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East,” he wrote.

Iran has said that the United States agreed to the general framework of its 10-point plan. Trump called the plan “workable.”

The plan requires that all sanctions and UN resolutions against Iran be lifted, the release of Iranian assets overseas, withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from regional military bases, estimated reparations and Iran’s right to nuclear enrichment. The plan was delivered to the United States through Pakistan.

But, Iran has also made it clear that failure to meet the terms of the agreement could cause more destruction.

“Our hands are on the trigger, and the moment the enemy makes the slightest mistake, it will be met with full force,” the Supreme National Security Council.
