Karoline Leavitt Resigns from Trump Administration Role

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her role at the end of August. Her resignation was announced less than a months after returning from maternity leave after giving birth to her second child at the beginning of May.

In a Truth Social post, Trump announced her departure saying that she was resigning, “so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect!”

He also said that Leavitt will become one of his top outside advisors and work with his party to try to to win the midterm elections in November.

Leavitt has served as press secretary since Trump won his second term in Nov. 2024. She has two children with her husband, Nicholas Riccio.

In a post on X, the soon-to-be former press secretary said, “Being a mother and welcoming a new baby while working in one of the most demanding jobs in the world has been the most rewarding yet challenging season [sic] of my life, to say the least,” she wrote.

She went on to say that she has felt that she could not be the mother that her children deserve since the birth of her most recent child.

Leavitt was the youngest White House press secretary in history.

However, her legacy may be more so defined by the depths to which she was willing to go to try to cover for Trump and the myriad untruths he told the American people.

For example, in March 2025, Leavitt stood before the nation and said that Trump’s global tariffs would cut taxes for Americans. Most economists said this was untrue, and, in due course, Americans saw an average of nearly $1,000 in tax increases per household, according to Tax Foundation.

She also said that $50 million in taxpayer money went to pay for condoms in Gaza as a rationale for Trump freezing money for USAID. There is no documentation to buttress this statement.

There is no word on who Trump will appoint to replace Leavitt.
