Trump has endorsed a bill to end daylight saving time.

A bill to make daylight saving time permanent is a part of a larger measure from the House Energy and Commerce Committee made it through a vote on Thursday. The bill is called The Sunshine Protection Act.

Trump posted his excitement over the bill advancing on Truth Social.

“Big Vote today (48-1!) in the Energy and Commerce Committee on a Bill including The Sunshine Protection Act, which will be making Daylight Saving Time Permanent! This is so important in that Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are spent every year by people, Cities, and States, being forced to change their Clocks. Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive,” he wrote.

The bill was brought by Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fl., who noted his belief that doing away with the biannual time change could be a boon for public health.

“My Sunshine Protection Act will bring us one step closer to ending the outdated and unpopular practice of changing our clocks twice a year. Floridians and Americans across the country are tired of the biannual time change, and the evidence is clear that permanent daylight saving time can improve public health, reduce traffic accidents, lower crime and encourage more outdoor activity,” he said in a statement.

The Sunshine Protection Act has 32 bipartisan co-sponsors in the House and its companion resolution has 18 bipartisan co-sponsors in the Senate.

In true form, Buchanan mentioned that Trump has been seeking an end to daylight saving time since his first term as president.

Buchanan has been introducing the act in Congress since 2018.
