Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday to post about the current situation in Minnesota and said that the mayor of Minneapolis is “playing with fire.”
Trump’s remarks were in response to Frey’s comments on social media platform X.
“The job of our police is to keep people safe, not enforce fed immigration laws. I want them precenting homicides, not hunting down a working dad who contributes to MPLS & is from Ecuador. It’s similar to the policy your guy Rudy had in NYC. Everyone should feel safe calling 911. ”
“Surprisingly, Mayor Jacob Frey just stated that, ‘Minneapolis does not, and will not, enforce Federal Immigration Laws.” This is after having had a very good conversation with him. Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!,'” Trump wrote.

The tensions in Minnesota have nearly hit a fever pitch after the second killing of a resident last week. Alex Petti, an ICU nurse, was fatally shot by a federal agent after attempting assist a woman that the agents had pushed down to the ground. His death came less than two weeks after ICE fatally shot Renee Good, a woman who attempted to drive away from agents.
Tom Homan, the border czar, visited Minnesota this week. He met with both Mayor Frey and Gov. Tim Waltz to try to manage the situation. After the meeting, Frey said that he expressed that federal agents in Minneapolis were having a negative impact on the residents.
“I shared with Mr. Homan the serious negative impacts this operation has had on Minneapolis and surrounding communities, as well as the strain it has placed on our local police officers,” Frey wrote on X.
On Monday, Trump said he had spoken with Frey and that Homan would stay in contact with local authorities and that progress is being made.
